All-terrain doesn't usually include water -- until now. Yangwang, the luxury sub-brand of Chinese manufacturer BYD, has revealed the extended-range U8 SUV that can temporarily tread water. The U8 Premium Edition is designed to weather extreme conditions like flash floods by automatically raising its suspension, turning off the engine, setting climate control to recirculate, and sealing the windows. The U8 can float for up to 30 minutes, forward at a speed of 1.8 MPH, and steer around objects. Designed as a domestic competitor to luxury SUV brands like Mercedes and Range Rover, the U8 features a four-motor electric drivetrain with a turbocharged four-cylinder that acts as a range extender, with a total output of 1,200 horsepower and a range of 621 miles. The U8 will begin deliveries in October.
